Waffle Blanket
I have to say that I LOVE the waffle stitch. It is such an easy stich that has such great definition and character. It is a great stitch for a blanket, a dish cloth, a scarf. It can be made into any project that you want to give some great definition to.
I decided for my first time working with this stitch that I was going to make a blanket. I used the colors to be my highlights as this stitch needs no other stitches to make it complete. It’s so great on it’s own.
This stitch is just a repeat of double crochets. It does have a “right” side (above) and a wrong side . If you have never made a waffle stitch before I highly recommend it. You can find the directions to the waffle stitch here from wiki how. It’s really just a pattern of double crochets and front posts double crochets that you alternate based on which side of the blanket that you are making. The pictures in that website aren’t very great. If you are a more visual person, I would recommend going to YouTube to find a video. This one is a great video of the waffle stitch.
I think the best part of this pattern is the very simple repeat. It’s a great one to do while watching tv. I don’t have to count or keep track of rows (until I do a color change). And sometimes that is very needed in crochet. A relaxing moment to be calm and create.
This particular blanket was going to be just a throw to keep on the couch, but some how turned into a queen size blanket for the spare bedroom. I am doing an ombre color using Caron One Pound skeins in shades of blue.
I’m still in the middle of this blanket, so you will have to check back later to see how it turns out!
