Bundling Up
This month has been all about changing weather and trying to stay warm. I am notoriously cold. Like ALL THE TIME. My husband and I are always on opposite sides of the scale on this one. I usually have a sweater and a couple layers on in the house and he is running around in short sleeves. Fortunately for me, once we had kids we started keeping the house a bit warmer for them since they don’t always understand being cold when they are only 2 years old.
Like in my last post, October has feeling all the cozy vibes and wanting to play with yarn that makes me feel warm and cozy. This year I decided I wanted to try something new. So I bought this amazing chunky soft yarn. They call it super bulky because it’s a very thick yarn. It helps to keep you super warm in these fall months.
It definitely is my new favorite yarn and has me feeling those fall vibes. I love how it feels against your skin. It’s very soft and just reminds me that the crispness is in the air. I also carry it in 14 different colors! A few of them are tweeds or 2 colors together, and the others are bright solid colors. I’m not sure what I like bests- the neutrals, or all the colors. I think it just depends on my mood that day. And perhaps what the weather is doing outside.
I then started to look around for patterns for a hat that uses this thicker yarn. It was hard to choose what I liked the best. After narrowing down what I think will be the most used, I ended up making 3 test hats to see which one I like best. I finally decided on the hat below. I like this one because it’s simple, but also has a bit of a twist to it. The ridges give it a bit of excitement without being too much. It’s a fun hat that looks good in both the neutral colors as well as the bright ones. Plus, these hats go great with or without a pom pom on it.
While hats are always a good go to. I also frequently put my hair up. It’s just so easy. And with having 3 little kids, sometimes I don’t have the time to always fix my hair. I know that there are many of you out there like me! I wanted to make sure that we all had that alternative to the hat. Which resulted in making a headband. These headbands are similar to my ear warmers rather than a headband. They are thicker, so they keep your ears warm- which is the most important part of when you are trying to stay warm. These headbands can also come with this cute little accent flower. It is optional, so you can choose it or leave it off.
Next I decided that I needed to make some gloves. Gloves are so perfect to keep you warm. For so many of us, our hands are always cold. And as my grandmother always use to say- Cold hand, warm heart- but, I still don’t like having cold hands. Fingerless gloves seem to be the most versatile for so many people. They allow you to keep your hands warm while also still being able to get stuff done. You can still use your phone while using them, or like me at the moment, type on your laptop while still wearing them. At 6am when I like to get up early and get some writing done before the kids get up, it’s still cold in the house and I definitely am needing them this morning! These gloves match the design of the hat and have a cute simplicity while also having a bit of a twist in them that jazzes them up a bit. The fit works great for all size hands.
The final piece made from this super soft yarn is the scarf. The scarves needed to have a cohesive look to the other pieces made with this yarn. The design that went the best was the infinity scarf. This scarf is one that you can wrap around your neck twice. The best thing is that once you put it on it stays. There is no messing with it or adjusting it. It’s just set and forget. That is the best thing with them- warmth without the hassle.
Purchasing a set of these items helps with those crazy school mornings. When you are rushing around trying to get the kids and yourself ready to head out for the day.
