Colder Weather Means Warmer Accessories

We are officially a few weeks into fall and I can definitely feel it. Fall for me means changing leaves, lots of walks to take advantage of the weather before winter hits and everything pumpkin! I had a pumpkin craving when I was pregnant with my oldest and every fall it comes back. My local bakery now has pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin crunch bars, and pumpkin cheesecake loaf. I’m in heaven!

We always have a late summer here in Bellingham, WA. Septembers are always still so nice and sunny. But once October hits, the temperature definitely changes. I have really been feeling it lately. The cool mornings and evenings. That means that it’s time to start dressing warmer.

When I think about dressing warmer my first thought is an ear warmer. I love to wear these. They are so versatile and can be worn for anything. I love to wear them when I run in the cool mornings, and then also in the chilly evenings as we are still able to hang out outside before the rain hits.

I’m not sure what I would vote best about ear warmers, the fact that they keep your ears warm, that they don’t mess up your hair as much, or that you can still wear your hair in a ponytail when you wear them. When you combine all of these, you have the perfect accessory!

Last year I decided to make ear warmers as my main gift giving present for Christmas. I gave them to my co-workers, teachers, friends and family. They really turn out to be a big hit. I love this pattern because these ear warmers are a bit thicker and so you don’t have to worry about them falling down all the time. And your ears are guaranteed to stay warm. But the best part is that they come in 3 different sizes! Adult, child and baby. Everyone could have matching ear warmers. My daughters love anything they get to wear that matches each other, but to match each other and also mom- that’s the best day ever!

They also have the perfect amount of flair to them. They have the little accent ridges on them that just brings it up to the next level. Then, you always have the option of adding on some fun little jewels! The jewels are a really fun accent piece. Especially on the children’s sizes. I think both of my daughters think this is the best part.

I decided to make them out of this super soft yarn called Caron Simply Soft. Even the name lets you know how soft this yarn is. It’s so nice on the skin. Plus it comes in SO MANY different colors. It’s a nice medium thickness yarn, so it’s a great thickness to be pliable and really forms nicely to your head.

As fabulous as I think ear warmers are, I know that not everyone wants an ear warmer. So I also have the matching hat. They are made out of the same super soft yarn. They also have the super cute ridges in them. The great optional feature with these is if you want to add a faux fur pom pom to them. These hats are so cute either way!

The hats have a great snug fit that isn’t slouchy on the top. They fit nice around your ears and keep you warm. I like to wear these on the colder days as they help to keep all the heat on my head. You do have to wear your hair down, but I do think that might help to keep you warm.

Now if you have a hat and/or ear warmer- you need to have the matching gloves and cowl!. They are the perfect additions to your fall/winter wear.

Fingerless gloves are a must in my world. I am ALWAYS cold and these do the trick to keep me warmer. They keep the backs and palms of your hands warm, but leave you the mobility to use your finger tips. These are great for when you are on your phone, or at your computer and need to type. You will definitely find a pair of these in my desk drawer! Plus they come in the same yarn as the hat and ear warmer.

Have you ever worn a cowl? I never really thought about them until a couple of years ago. I discovered them when I was running a lot. I needed that little bit of extra warmth in my morning fall runs. My neck was always the cold part. I was able to get a few athletic cowls and I have never gone back. Now, the crochet cowls that I make are a bit different than the athletic ones, but they do the same job. They are designed to keep your neck warm, but you don’t have to fiddle with it like a scarf, or the additional layer of an infinity scarf. They are made to nicely hug your neck.

These cowls have the same yarn and colors as the ear warmers, hats, and gloves. They also have the fun accent design of the ridges and the cinching that the ear warmers have.

These pieces have all been designed to work perfectly together. They can keep your ears, head, hands, and necks warm all fall and winter. The sets take the guesswork out of trying to mix and match products. That is also what makes them an amazing gift set. Keep you mom, wife, girlfriend, co-workers, friend or acquaintance warm this winter with a matching set! The only decision you need to make are picking a color (are they the same color or mix & match?), and deciding who on your Christmas list would love these!
