Handmade Pot Holders
I have never really thought much about pot holders really. They aren’t really a thing I use much. Honestly, I don’t do much cooking. My husband loves to cook- I on the other hand, do not like it all. I have never been able to figure out the timing of cooking so that everything comes out delicious and at the same time. If I was single, I think I would live off of bagged salads and pre-cooked frozen chicken! But I’m not single and married a wonderful man whose qualities are different from my own, which is why we work so well together.
But my point was- I just never really thought about pot holders. I understand the use for them. So that you can place your hot pans on the table for family style dinners, or on the counter to make dishing up easier, to pick up that hot lid so you can stir the fabulous creation that you are making. They are used so that you do not burn yourself or your surfaces.
Most of the pot holders I have come across are plain and boring. Just something people add to their kitchen as an afterthought. Function over style. But who says that they can’t be functional and pretty??? I think that is what drew me into deciding to make a pot holder. They are so pretty to look at!
My pot holders are made with 100% cotton (the same cotton used to make my loofahs, face wipes, and masks) so they won’t get charred from the hot pan. They also have this amazing stitch called the Thermal Stitch. This stitch allows the material to basically be double layered as it stitches back into itself. I also crochet this with two strands at a time to ensure the great thickness. This thickness combined with the cotton makes for a perfect pot holder.
The Lion Brand cotton that I use comes in some great colors as well. I love to be able to use these in every color of the rainbow. Plus, with using two strands at once, I am able to make a them 2 colors. The twisting of the two colors together makes for an amazing looking pot holder.
With the rainbow of colors to choose from, and also deciding if you want one solid color, or 2 colors together, you are able to match it with any color scheme you can think of. Just look around your kitchen and decide what color(s) work best for you!
I think my personal favorites are the green and dark blue. These two colors together remind me of the Seattle sports teams that we are always rooting for. Both my husband and I love them, so it just makes sense to have these colors in our home. What color combo do you love best? Just because, or because it would go great in your kitchen?
These fun pot holders also have an amazing loop on the end. I never really realized why people put them on there or why it was really needed until lately. I have been hanging mine up so that it's easier for me to quickly reach when I have a hot pan. Plus, it allows you to show off those fun colors in your kitchen.
These pot holders are definitely something I encourage you to try out. Not only will they make your life a bit easier, but they will add that bit of color and happiness to your day.
