Changing of the Seasons
The change of seasons is great. It’s like a way to kind of “start over” with things. In the spring is when you typically do spring cleaning- you get organized and prepare to be outside more and doing all the activities. In the fall, I feel like it’s the time to get settled in.
I love fall. I think it’s my favorite time of year. I love the way the leaves slowly start to change. The way the evenings slowly start to get cooler and cooler. There is a crisp dew on the ground in the morning that gets your feet wet as you let the dog out. And the final round of produce starts to become ripe.
The way you eat and drink also starts to change. Drinking more tea in the mornings is a must. I love the warmth it gives on those chilly mornings. And yes, I do enjoy everything pumpkin there is to consume. Some pumpkin syrup on my tea (whoo hoo PSL season!) The pumpkin pastries that are everywhere, pumpkin loaf, pumpkin scones, pumpkin cookies. And my favorite- pumpkin cheesecake from the local bakery
But it’s not just the weather related things that I like. The activities slowly start to settle down as the sun starts to go down earlier. This is the first year we have back to school with my first grader. While it’s not the same since they are doing school virtually, there is still the build up of going back and getting to see everyone. Also, school clothes shopping!
I start to change over to a different wardrobe as the evenings get cooler. No more dresses and tank tops. The shorts go back in a pile in the back of the closet. I start to pull out the long sleeves and sweaters. The boots and the comfy socks come out.
But in September you always have to dress warm in the mornings and evenings, and then take everything off in the middle of the day when it’s still nice out! I think September is one of my favorite months for this reason. It’s not about full on winter clothes, but accessories to make your outfits warmer.
There are a few things that I have made in my shop that I love that are great for this reason. The first one is the Pocket Shawl. This is the perfect item to throw over your shoulders in the evening when it gets a bit brisk out. It’s perfect for sitting around a bon fire or out on the patio with friends. Just wrap it around your shoulders and you are good to go.
The best thing is that it has huge pockets. Not only are they great for putting your hands in and keeping them warm, but they also can hold quite a few things! I can put my keys and phone in a pocket and it still has enough room for my hands. I think these oversize pockets are the best thing about it.
They come in many different color options, so there is a color for everyone. They also have these amazing tassels on the end. It gives it some personality and flare while you are bundles up. But don’t like the tassels, no problem- they can come without as well.
Have you ever tried wearing a triangle scarf? I never really had one until my early 30s when I decided to make myself one. And I fell in love! They are so versatile. You can wrap them around your neck like a scarf, or over your shoulders like a shawl. They can be worn so many ways. I have also seen people who put cuffs on them so they stay in place. It’s a great little bonus accessory.
Which makes this the perfect accessory for the fall. You can wrap yourself up in the morning, then take it off mid day and you aren’t stuck with carrying around a full sweater all day.
Like the Pocket Scarf, these also come in different colors and yarn, so that you can find your perfect match to your outfit that day.
The weather is still pretty nice here in Bellingham, WA. I love the September weather. I still have lots of time to do more patio bon fires this year (socially distanced of course). How are you going to spend the rest of your September?
