Waffle Stitch
I have to say that I LOVE the waffle stitch. It is such an easy stitch because it’s so repetitive. It also that has such great definition and character to anything you make with it, Just as the name suggests it looks just like a waffle! It even has the indents. This is what gives the stitch such great character and feel. You can feel all of those ripples!
It is a great stitch for a blanket, a dishcloth, a scarf. Pretty much anything that can be made into a square, or rectangle. I haven’t tried a hat, but I’m sure you could figure out a way to make it in the round.
One item that I have in my shop with this amazing stitch is the dish cloths. These are made with Lion Brand Re-Up yarn. I like this yarn as it’s 85% cotton and 15% polyester. But the best part is that it’s recycled cotton. Using this recycled cotton saves 5900 cups of water per ball- per the label on this yarn. Isn’t that amazing. Any thing that I can do to help save the environment is a good thing!
This dish cloth is great for washing counters and sinks, scrubbing dishes, or even using in the shower or bath. The feel of this cotton is great on your skin, so your hands are going to love you!
They come in a 2 pack, so you re able to always have one available while the other is in the wash. And since they are cotton, they are easy to machine wash and dry to keep them sanitary. Check them out in the shop section.
I wanted to also try out this stitch on a blanket. This stitch has so much definition, that I didn’t want to overwhelm it with too much color changes or any patterns. So I decided on an ombre look. The sections are big and the slow color changes are wonderful.
I think the best part of this pattern is the very simple repeat. It’s a great one to do while watching tv. I don’t have to count or keep track of rows (until I do a color change). And sometimes that is very needed in crochet (and in a crazy life). A relaxing moment to be calm and create. If you would like to learn how to do this- simply look up waffle stitch on wiki how and it has a great tutorial.
This particular blanket was going to be just a throw to keep on the couch, but some how turned into a twin size blanket for my son for when we eventually move him out of his crib. I am doing an ombre color using Caron One Pound skeins in shades of blue. I love how these one pound yarns feel and how easy it is on a repete stitch to just keep going with so much yarn.
I’m still in the middle of this blanket, so you will have to check back later to see how it turns out!
